Why Counseling?

We all experience times in life where things become overwhelming, and we may respond with frustration, sadness, anxiety, or even a complete loss of hope. The counselors at Courage to Be aim to assist clients who are facing these challenges, and help them find a new balance. We believe strongly in the human potential for growth and change, and have been privileged to assist clients who work hard to make this manifest in their own lives. We counsel clients who struggle with issues including addictions, relationships, depression/anxiety, grief and loss, work-life balance, and many other concerns that make life overwhelming and challenging.

My approach to counseling

There is an art and science to effective therapy. As such, I use evidence based treatment approaches combined with creativity to create a map to address your unique concerns. I use a strengths-based, growth-oriented framework to help clients understand and change the emotional experiences and cognitive patterns that negatively impact healthy functioning.

I truly understand how difficult it can be to reach out and seek help when we are needing it. Taking that first step is hard. It is critical that you find someone you connect with and feel will support you on your journey. If you feel I might be that person for you, contact me. I offer free phone or email consultations to help start that healing journey.

This process of the good life is not, I am convinced, a life for the faint-hearted. It involves the stretching and growing of becoming more and more of one's potentialities. It involves the courage to be. It means launching oneself fully into the stream of life.

My approach to counseling

The cracks, bumps, potholes, and debris in life’s journey can wear you out. They can make you tired, beat you down, and terrify you to the point of paralysis. Counseling gives you a place of peace, security, and nonjudgmental reflection. I believe that it is my role to help facilitate the change you want in your life. Whether it is the general anxieties of life, specific trauma, or the pain of grief I am skilled to walk with you through the most difficult moments of your life providing you with the support and tools you need to overcome the chaos of it all.

As a clinician I am trained in many different counseling modalities and techniques including CBT, existential, and person-centered therapy. I have a particular interest in using these skills to benefit the LGBTQIA+ community. As someone passionate about this population I have a deep commitment to providing its members with a secure and comfortable space where they can process their unique experiences. My research experience as well as my lived reality lends to my understanding of LGBTQIA+ issues.
